Shri Mataji
Through simple questions
and affirmations,
Shri Mataji, by Her grace,
traces the history of mankind,
offering us a way to face
ourselves, to seek and find
the wisdom, joy and peace
of unceasing
self realisation.
Somewhere – in the Garden of Eden
perhaps – the Power of God
granted us a great gift,
rifting us from the rest of Creation.
She, the Prime Power,
gifted to us our
imagination,
our perception, a new voice,
our free will, choice.
While the rest of Creation still
obeyed, without question, God’s will,
mankind took its destiny, and
the consequences, into its own hands.
The first desire, in those early days,
was matter –
food, shelter, weapons of security,
the surety of survival
against all rivals.
Even in these latter
days money, things
and what things bring,
are still the way of life
for most, causing envy, greed
the need for more, for new, for speed,
increasing our current
international strife,
and individual discontent.
The next desire? A towering
need for power,
for praise, obedience.
We domineer,
experience
the other’s fear.
But as we drive
through on-going lives
we tend to find
that things and status bind
and blind us, while stuff
and power are not enough.
There must be something more,
we say, a simple core
to our existence!
So we search the distance
between our world and peace of mind
to find,
to sleuth-out
truth.
So we seek outside
ourselves, in humility or pride,
through religions and prisms
of –osophies and –isms,
special visions, special places,
so-called wise, attractive faces,
sects and drugs and cults.
The result?
We find among all the congestion,
those key questions
concerning truth, which guide
us inside,
and we find that the wealth
of answers lies in the Spirit, the Self.

The lights of your heart together make a greater light for the world to move in a proper direction. It’s a day of great joy, and those who join in this, are spreading also great joy.
But the problems are there, as they say, but for us there is no problem because there is no darkness. We don’t see any darkness anywhere; we see lights, and lights, and lights.
Then what is the thing missing? Missing is our sincerity. We have to be very sincere with ourselves, because it is not just a borrowed love or borrowed joy, but it is from within the source; it’s flowing and flowing and flowing.
So that is to be awakened, and that love should flow, and our small petty things like jealousies and competitions and all those things which spoil us, must be washed away. And it can be washed if your heart is full of love. Today is a day of spreading that light of love, so that everybody feels enlightened and happy and forgets these petty problems…
You are already blessed people; there is no doubt about it. And we should not worry about small things and small matters. It will all work out very well, you will see, if you just leave it to your destiny, which is very high, very great – in this your own destiny you will go very far.
This is the Promise of Diwali to you all, that you will reach the highest and the noblest way of life.
Every word I say will be there to prove what I say is there. Whatever petty problems you have, they’ll all be washed off. All these are the messages from the Divine. You don’t have to worry about petty things, about money, about jobs. That’s not your job. Your destiny will work it out. You have a promise that you’ll be looked after. I hope you believe in that promise and are joyous in the highest way. I bless you all from my heart, all of you, for a very happy and prosperous Diwali. Thank you very much.
Shri Mataji, Diwali 2003
We have to understand that life has to be enjoyable. Life should be a blessing. It’s not to be a misery. We create our own miseries by these false ideas, by our own conflictions we have in our mind, mental projections we have in our mind or our own obstinacy, whatever it is.
All these things can be cured if you take to Sahaja Yoga because you become a balanced person, level-headed, wise person and you become a witness. The whole thing becomes like a show, like a drama and you become fearless. You start seeing the whole thing like a drama. And this is what a human being has to achieve.
Shri Mataji, 1986
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi founded Sahaja Yoga in 1970. Since that time She has given hundreds, maybe thousands, of public lectures all over the world during which she has spoken about the evolution of human beings into what she calls “super-human beings”.
Shri Mataji describes the last breakthrough of evolution as the attainment of Self-realisation. Self-realisation is the process by which the residual life-force in every human being (called the Kundalini) which resides in the sacrum bone, the triangular bone at the base of the spine, rises up the spinal column and up through the limbic area (the “old” brain) and out of the fontanelle bone area to unite with the All-pervading Power of the universe.
When this happens, we become connected to the power that created us. We become more knowledgeable about ourselves. We become collectively conscious, as Carl Jung has described. We are more connected to, more knowledgeable about and more compassionate towards others. We feel peaceful and joyful, and we feel loved and more loving towards others.
As we begin to meditate and to strengthen this connection after attaining our Self-realisation we become “thoughtlessly aware”, we become better people, we automatically act in more selfless and constructive ways and all our bad habits drop out. We gain the benefits of better health, good self-esteem and improved relationships with others. We receive inspiration to help us in our endeavours and experience being “in the flow”, where everything happens effortlessly and spontaneously, more often. In this way we become, as Shri Mataji says, “super-human beings”.
Shri Mataji describes this new state as the last step in our evolution and says that it is our birthright as human beings to receive it. It is very helpful on the microcosmic level, the personal level, to achieve this new state of being, through our Self-realisation, but even greater benefits accrue when this breakthrough is achieved on the macrocosmic level, the collective level.
Just as Self-realisation integrates all the best qualities of the human being in each individual, when many human beings have their Self-realisation then integration can take place on a global level. People of all cultures and backgrounds can then transcend their differences, live in peace and work co-operatively towards a new era of harmony and prosperity in a truly multi-cultural world.
