Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Inspired by her political parents and Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi dedicated her youth to the resistance against the British Empire for Indian freedom. But all those years she kept to her vision − a vision which goes beyond the political freedom of her motherland, a vision of inner freedom and transformation of each individual, a vision that is worth fighting for and that would take her to the five continents giving thousands of lectures and offering Self-Realisation en masse.
“… we are here to get our freedom, to get the freedom for our spirit, to make our spirit free from our greed, lust, from your anger, from our conditionings, from our terrible ego.”
In 1970, Shri Mataji developed a method to give people Self-Realisation, the connection with their own spirit. She showed people how to reach the state of meditation and find the deep silence inside which is thoughtless awareness.

Shri Mataji started her spiritual work with a small number of people in India and later in the West, mostly from the generation of the 1968 student movement in Europe. Today, she is still travelling all over the world to help and enlighten as many people as possible, without charging for her work. Her teaching is practised freely in over 95 countries for the benevolence of humanity, helping individuals to find peace, wellbeing and joy, and to discover the meaning of life. About the Film
FREEDOM AND LIBERATION is the work of young director, Carolin Dassel, who shows the many 
stages of this adventurous life in a very subtle way. The timeless impressions and beautiful music, as well as the original locations and archival material, combine to produce an atmosphere of meditative authenticity.
